Web-Based Audio Conference
Defining Quality Care /
Quality Measurement Development and Options for Engagement
June 23, 2009 | 12:00 - 1:30 pm EDT

Overview /

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) made strides to become a more active purchaser of healthcare services by implementing value-based purchasing (VBP), including pay-for-reporting and pay-for-performance programs.  Both Congress and the administration are enacting policies designed to reform provider payment systems to support Medicare’s transition to VBP, particularly in the hospital setting.

With the growing emphasis on VBP, quality measures are becoming an integral – and contentious – tool to assess provider performance.  Efforts to link payment to performance in Medicare underscore the need for stakeholders to understand how measures are developed and endorsed and how the accompanying payments create incentives for delivering high-quality care.

Specifically, expansion of VBP in the hospital setting raises several questions. How do CMS and measure developers prioritize topics?  How does CMS select measures for implementation?  What factors influence the measure-selection process?  And how does CMS balance the agency’s quality goals against the burden associated with reporting?

Join Avalere Health for a 90-minute interactive audio conference that will highlight:

  • CMS’s VBP efforts and the role of quality measurement in VBP
  • Key thought leaders’ views on measure prioritization and development
  • CMS’s perspective on measure selection and implementation
  • Opportunities for process improvements and increased transparency
